Tips for good wedding speeches

posted by: Karrie on 9 May 2008

This photo of my son made me laugh so I thought I'd share it with you, but it led me to some useful tips for your wedding speeches ...

David - grabbing attention with style!

My youngest son David (on the left, hunting for the hippo behind him) emailed me a copy of this photo he is using in a marketing campaign at Centech Park, Redditch.  It’s typical of his sense of humour - he never worries about ‘looking a fool’ if a good marketing opportunity presents itself.

Reminds me a bit of some of the best Best Man speeches we’ve filmed.  They haven’t been long.  They haven’t used hundreds of photos and Internet jokes.  They’ve been personal, written, then shortened again and again and included just 1 or 2 really good ‘true’ short stories about the Groom and Best Man - which didn’t try to make them sound like perfect super heroes.

As most of us de-clutter our houses (help urgently required here, by the way!) maybe it’s time to de-clutter speeches too?  Give out all but the parents’ thank you presents beforehand, or put them by place settings on the tables, and keep all 3 speeches under 30 minutes total.  Your guests will thank you - honestly!

What do you remember about the best (or anonymous worst) wedding speeches you’ve heard?

Karrie, my Mother always said “Fools name and fools faces always seen in public places.” It tells you two things about Mom; she was very modest and she never ran her own business! Letting your personality shine through -to the extent you’re comfortable with the exposure -can be a good thing for your company.
Cheers,

Steve
