Kate & Ian's marquee wedding at The Oaks

posted by: Karrie on 7 June 2009

Horrendous weather forecast - but not a drop of rain fell at their fabulous wedding ...

Cutting their wedding cake at The Oaks - photo by Cara Johnson

The day began with Jon and I filming Kate’s bridal preparations at The Oaks, Kate’s beautiful family home at Newstead Abbey. Bridesmaids Katy Kujawinski and Alex Ievins and Kate’s mother Elaine Smith were all helping Kate dress in her fabulous gown adorned with Swarovski crystals and pearls. There were some tears as the transformation from daughter to beautiful bride took place and as Kate walked down the magnificent staircase in her much admired sparkle adorned shoes. Meanwhile Chris was filming with Ian and his attendants, who were all having a great time together.

Next it was on to St Peter’s Church in Thurgarton for a ceremony conducted by Rev Andrew de Berry in the beautiful old priory, accompanied by the wonderful choral accompaniment of the Carlton Male Voice Choir. After a brief photo call with Will from Fenning Brown it was back to The Oaks for a lavish wedding reception in the impressive marquee complex, under the calm but efficient guidance of toastmaster Geoffrey Harris. Champagne and canapés were served, accompanied by the excellent Highly Strung Quartet. Will completed a speedy photo call with the Bride & Groom and speeches then proceeded the magnificent Wedding Breakfast catered by Fiona Herbert Catering.

Robert Smith, the Bride’s father, started the ball rolling in style; Ian followed with a natural and genuine style; the two Best Men Matthew Baker and Graham Hand reduced guests to laughter and finally Matron of Honour Alex had the ‘last word’!

Guests then had time to enjoy the fun Photo Booth while we filmed video messages. After the cutting of the wedding cake and First Dance the evening entertainment stepped up a pace with Abba Magic, and we left a sea of arms waving and guests enjoying the tribute band’s rendition of Abba hits.

Ian and Kate would love you all to leave them a goodwill message - perhaps tell them of anything they missed, or how much you enjoyed the meal, speeches and entertainment. We’ll email everyone who leaves a message below as soon as their highlights montage (define) goes online in our movie theatre ... you may even see yourselves on film!
